Kaiden is here!

Happy Birthday Bean! Kaiden August B. was born Friday, October 5th, 2007 at 2:01 pm, weighing in at 7lbs 5 oz, and standing tall at 21 inches! Here's the story of the past coupla days:

(ps... THANKS to Amy's parents and my parents for some of these pictures... right click and check out the properties/file name for the names Carolyn, Dwight or Diane)

Thursday, 4:54 pm. Yep, you know what this picture is. "Hey baby... I think my water just broke!"

Sweet! We're having a baby! Do we have time for that one more pregnant picture we wanted to take?

Got the stuff ready to load, but since Amy had no signs of anything close to labor, we had to leave the house with a list of things undone... mow the lawn... clean the floors... shop for groceries... oh well!

Safely driving to the hospital, sending text messages as we go.

I'm too excited to breathe!

Our LnD room at the Med Ctr of Plano.

Not a bad pad. This is where all the action happened. See the big lights hidden in the ceiling?

Since her water had broken, we knew we'd need to deliver within 24 hours. Her body didn't know it though... here's her graph at about 6:30 pm, with nothing happening.

Our room is the one above the first E. We aren't in the ER... Labor and Delivery just happens to be above it.

I swear... she said "I don't mind if you eat in front of me. I'd just rather have you back here sooner."

Still not thrilled though, since she'd last eaten at 11 am, and wasn't allowed any food. The smell of those fries was torture, I'm sure.

Jim and Pam came by to visit!

Ready for it!

All hooked up, and in pregnant pose.

Amy's mom and dad came down from Tulsa for the occasion.

Right this way...

She got the contraction-inducing drug Pitocin around 11pm, and by 12:35 am, the contractions (bottom graph) were getting strong and regular.

Still in good spirits!

Let's get this show on the road!

Getting some good use out of the necessity bag packed by Shari!

Hmmm... smile is waning... the contractions are getting pretty fierce now. Things got better after some Nubane around 3 am, but things really felt good when...

that epidural got pumping around 6!

She got so comfortable, she was actually able to snooze for an hour or so.

Awww!

Yup, progressing nicely. They warned us that they were watching his heartrate drop with each contraction, and might need to recommend a C section if he wasn't fitting out the doorway.

Amy's dad Clayton holds a gorilla from Rich "Big Pig" and Amanda... Kaiden's first congratulatory gift and card, even before Kaiden made his appearance!

Only food allowed: ice chips and popsicles.

Pushing the epidural button. "I'll take chemical bliss for $400, Alex."

And..... a little more snooze time.

We let the staff know when Amy started getting the urge to push. They checked her out, and decided to get the show on the road. Scrubs for dad!

Here we go!

Yup, there's my little trooper! (Can't believe she let me take this picture)

Ta Da! One hour later, a new baby! He was a little pale from having the cord at his neck, but no worries.

Already posing for the camera while dad cuts the cord.

Here's your son!

After a minute with mom, over to the table for cleaning, and the first cry.

Holding hands with dad!

Nice to meet you!

Awwww!

Crying done, he chilled out and checked out the new situation.

Scale time!

Footprints...

I'm not sure, but I think we might have a cyclist on our hands...

And footprints on the scrubs.

New family!

Handoff to mom.

So THAT's who's been kicking my bladder!

How adorable is this? Well, besides the antibacterial goop in his eyes.

Snuggly.

Too sweet.

Hello, Papa Clayton!

On the phone, spreading the news.

The Quiet and Alert phase.

Kaiden was sort of an early birthday gift for Clayton, who turned 60 on Sunday. Happy Birthday!

While Kaiden had his first meal ever, Nana and Papa went down to the gift shop for goodies!

Next priority... get some food in Amy! Best burger and tater tots EVER, she says.

My creamed sweet potatoes and pasta however, barely edible.

After our meal, they moved us down to a post-partum room for the rest of our stay.

Already walking all over me.

Tired but happy!

Seriously, how adorable is this little dude?

My parents got there Friday evening, and got acquainted with their second new grandson of the year! (My sister's 6th child Erik was born in August!) Grandma Diane, and...

Grandpa Dwight.

I got the honor of the first ever diaper change, and it was POO.

This doesn't happen often, does it?

Nana Carolyn gets another turn, on the way out to the football game on Saturday.

Pam gets to see him in his...

Incredibly cute OU hat, in honor of the OU/Texas game.

This is our room, two doors down from...

another set of OU fan new parents.

Check out that hair! Cone head's getting back to normal...

Awww!

Couldn't be prouder...

of this little dude.

A little quiet time.

*sniff*

No words.

Having his hearing tested.

Enjoying some much needed coffee on Sunday morning (thanks Mom), and using the hospital's wi-fi.

Grandma's turn to make some calls!

Aww!

I'm telling you, this hat was a hit.

A little more snuggle time.

Holy moly that kid is cute!

Am I wrong?

After a mostly-sleepless night on Thursday, Amy and I opted to let the nursery keep him overnight Friday and Saturday, and bring him out to us for feedings. Kinda sad, but the best decision.

Applying for the birth certificate before checking out on Sunday.

Ready to go home?

But first, let's change you into an outfit for your hospital portrait!

Shhh...

Practice making different faces.

Check out his hospital portrait here.

Big yawn!

Quite time with Grandpa B.

Adjusting the car seat for him.

Haha! Check out those toes!

Dreaming of food?

Got the car packed...

Time to move out!

Let's go home!

Slept the whole way.

A little cuddle time with Nana Carolyn, and...

Grandma Diane.

Ok dogs, no licking, no eating, no barking at. You are the Protectors.

Sniff!

The start of a new chapter...
